Edith Pearce presents Kiara Ashton with the scholarship

Ms. Ashton will be graduating from Philadelphia Electrical & Technology Charter High School (PE&T) in June. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 2nd in her class of over 140 students. Kiara is a member of the school’s National Honor Society and Student Government. Kiara became passionate about becoming a lawyer through the Philadelphia Athletic League (PAL) Day at City Hall, where she shadowed a Municipal Court Judge and obtained an internship during the summer. Kiara will be attending Temple University in the fall as a criminal justice major.

The Pearce Law Firm held a ceremony on March 16 to present the award. Ms. Pearce commented, “Kiara stood out this year as a student passionate about becoming a lawyer. Not only has she exceled academically, but also she has shown leadership both in the classroom and outside, including her involvement with the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Philly AIDS Thrift Store.” Ms. Pearce also commented, “I am a big supporter of schools such as Philadelphia Electrical & Technology Charter High School where students are prepared for high-tech industries and vocations where there is a shortage of skilled workers, while also giving students a strong foundation in core academic subjects.” Founded in 2002 by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 98, PE&T gives students the opportunity to enter the career fields of their choice in a variety of ways, including the pursuit of apprenticeships at IBEW Local 98, direct employment in industries, or attendance at college.

This $1,500 scholarship was created by Edith Pearce, founder of The Pearce Law Firm, P.C., and is awarded annually to a Pennsylvania high school senior or recent high school graduate who has been accepted to a college or university with the desire to attend law school following college. The scholarship exists to encourage “aspiring attorneys” in high school to pursue their dream to become a lawyer after college. The applicant must be a Pennsylvania high school senior or recent Pennsylvania high school graduate with a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.  Applications for The Pearce Law Firm Aspiring Pennsylvania Attorneys Scholarship for 2018 are due by May 31, 2018 and can be found online at https://thepearcelawfirm.com/aspiring-scholarship/.
