Bicyclists are always exposed to danger when they ride alongside traffic. Drivers can give very little thought to the road in front of them and rarely doublecheck for anyone who might be traveling nearby.

It’s a scary proposition for cyclists who can do very little if a car is suddenly moving over on them or pulling in front of them. The devastating results are seen every year by emergency responders.

The aftermath can be even more heartbreaking for victims and their families when the motorist who caused the accident decides to drive away to avoid taking responsibility for his or her mistake.

Bicyclist Killed in Collision with Car in Falls Township

A cyclist was killed in a collision with a car early Thursday morning in Falls Township in Bucks County. WPVI-TV reported the accident happened around 1:30 a.m. on U.S. Route 1 near the Fairless Hills exit on September 17, 2020.

Police say the driver who struck the 34-yr-old rider kept driving and fled the scene. A black BMW sedan was later found abandoned on the side of the road. The car had front-end damage and a smashed driver’s side windshield.

Police are now trying to locate the driver of the BMW.  They know who the car is registered to but are trying to determine who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Falls Township Police.

Help for Pennsylvania Families after Hit & Run Accidents

The families left behind after fatal bicycle accidents face extremely difficult times in the wake of tragedy. They have lost a loved one and it may be impossible to seek justice if the at-fault driver isn’t located.

Close relatives may soon be hit with ambulance fees, funeral costs, and other expenses in the wake of a hit-and-run collision. These bills arrive as the financial support the deceased victim provided the family through his or her employment has dried up.

The responsible driver may not be around to provide insurance money, but there may be another way to find assistance for the family.  The victim’s own auto insurance may provide compensation after an accident. This would be part of the policy’s uninsured/under-insured coverage. If the deceased didn’t have auto insurance, the victim may have been covered under a close family member’s policy.

An attorney familiar with insurance company practices and state law can help families get the most compensation possible from their insurance agents. This money can help pay expenses and even ensure the spouse and the victim’s children are provided for in the coming years.

If the driver to blame for the accident is later located, then a wrongful death claim can move forward on behalf of the family.  The driver’s insurance would be targeted in this civil lawsuit and could compensate the family’s current needs and provide for the future.
