Pedestrians shouldn’t have to risk their lives to cross the street. Yet, when distracted drivers don’t give proper attention to watch out for other people using the road a tragedy can result.

The Pennsylvania DOT documents the dangers on Bucks County Roads each year. In 2019, the county saw 12 tragic deaths from pedestrian accidents with another 122 injured victims.

Careless drivers can look at everything but the road in front of them and miss seeing a defenseless person trying to make it across the street.

Falls Township Pedestrian Hit And Killed

A man crossing Lincoln Highway in Falls Township Monday evening was struck and killed. Levitt Town Now reported the accident happened around 7:40 p.m. near the intersection of Oxford Valley Road on November 2, 2020.

Falls Township police say the 54-yr-old man from Philadelphia was hit by the driver of a Honda Accord. The victim was taken to Jefferson Bucks Hospital and later pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda, a 45-year-old man from Langhorne, stayed on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Anyone who witnessed the accident and could help explain what happened has been asked to contact the Falls Township Police Department.

Support for Families after a Bucks County Pedestrian Accident

In a tragic accident, investigators will alert family members that the life of a loved one was taken. That news will come as a shock and can leave the family with little time to properly grieve. Hospital bills and funeral costs can all arrive just as the immediate family realizes they’ve also been robbed of the financial support the victim provided the family through his or her job.

Mourning families should not have to cope with these hardships alone, especially in an accident that was the result of a careless driver. That driver and his or her insurance company should be held liable for the damages they caused.

That’s the purpose of a wrongful death claim that can be filed by the family left behind. A spouse, domestic partner, child, or parents of the victim can file a civil lawsuit on behalf of the family. This claim would demand help with immediate bills, but could also include a request for money to stabilize the family down the road. The children especially will be without the financial and emotional support of the deceased as they grow and that loss can be part of any compensation.

An attorney can also represent the family in this claim and help make sure every hardship is covered in any settlement the family accepts or by a courtroom verdict.
