Pedestrians can be at extreme risk when they must trust distracted and careless drivers to give proper attention to anyone else using the roads. A motorist can be checking a text message or talking on a cell phone and fail to stop for or even see someone on foot.

Nighttime is especially dangerous for pedestrians because drivers who should be paying more attention to the streets can be even more likely to miss someone in a crosswalk. In fact, in 2018 76% of pedestrian fatalities across the country happened after dark. It only takes one mistake by a careless driver to put a pedestrian’s life at serious risk.

Maple Shade Pedestrian Killed In Collision with Vehicle

A pedestrian was tragically struck and killed on Thursday in Maple Shade Township in New Jersey. The Cherry Hill Courier-Post reports the accident happened on Route 73 at Waverly Avenue after 9 p.m. on December 3, 2020.

Investigators identified the victim as a 66-year-old Philadelphia man. The driver involved in the accident remained on the scene and cooperated with officers.

The cause of the accident hasn’t been reported and it is not known if the driver faced charges. Maple Hill Police say the intersection has a traffic signal to help pedestrians cross safely, but in the fall of 2019 three other pedestrians were killed in the same intersection.

Support for New Jersey Families After a Pedestrian Accident

In the wake of a tragic pedestrian accident, families can be left to wonder how to get justice for such a sudden and heartbreaking loss. The grieving family can be victimized by hospital bills, ambulance fees, and funeral costs in a matter of days. These financial damages can appear just as a family is without the support the lost loved one provided through their employment.

In these difficult situations, relatives of the deceased are allowed to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver and his or her insurance coverage. The person to file is usually a spouse or domestic partner or a child of the victim. An attorney can also file the claim for the family and look further into an accident to identify valuable evidence and collect important documents.

Your family should be compensated for the anguish they’ll face now and in the years to come. A spouse and children were robbed of the financial and emotional support that the victim would have offered over a lifetime because of the mistake of a driver. That can all factor into the amount of compensation a family can receive.
