About 75% of motorcycle accidents involve another vehicle and in about 65% of those cases the motorist in a car, truck or SUV failed to yield the right of way to the motorcyclist. The most common cause of failure to yield is a driver taking a left hand turn.

Unfortunately, some people just do not notice motorcycles. Motorcycles have a much smaller profile, and a lot of people are looking for 2 headlights. Whatever the reason, drivers still have a duty to be aware of their surroundings before pulling in to traffic.

When a driver pulls out into traffic, motorcyclists are forced to make a split second decision. In many cases, there are no good options as it is too late to safely maneuver the motorcycle around the vehicle. Many left hand turn accidents occur at driveways, side streets or intersections when drivers go to make a left.
