On Saturday afternoon, February 24, 2018, a minivan attempted to pass a box truck in Colerain Township. Unfortunately, a truck was approaching from the opposite direction. The drivers of the truck and minivan attempted to miss eachother but unfortunately had a head on collision. According to WGAL, one person died as the result of the Lancaster County crash and 6 others were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Our hearts go out to everyone involved and the families of those involved in this devastating accident.

A word on head on collisions and passenger injuries

Head-on collisions almost always result in traumatic injuries and/or fatalities. That’s because when two vehicles hit each other at 55MPH, it is almost like getting into an accident at 110MPH.

Unfortunately, many passengers are also injured in these life altering accidents. We have a page on our website dedicated to passenger injuries. Basically, passengers (and drivers) should know that insurers will very likely attempt to find a way to delay or minimize claims to you for your injuries. The bills from a terrible accident may last a lifetime and may cost hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. In many cases, insurers will attempt to blame you for your injuries and completely deny your claim.

Please be careful passing

You should never pass a vehicle unless you can safely see ahead and will be safely able to pass that vehicle. In the event you can not pass the vehicle as expected, you should slow down and get back behind the vehicle you were trying to pass.

Pennsylvania state law states that “No vehicle shall be driven to the left side of the center or marked center line of the roadway in overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction unless the left side is clearly visible and is free of oncoming traffic for a sufficient distance ahead to permit the overtaking and passing to be completely made without interfering with the operation of any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction or any vehicle overtaken.”
