Pedestrians in Philadelphia should be protected as they walk the city and that safe journey should be offered no matter if it’s day or night. Well-lit streets and easy to navigate crosswalks should be standard in every part of Philadelphia.

When distracted drivers can put pedestrians at risk in full sunlight, it should be obvious that motorists should pay even more attention at night when visibility will always be reduced. Careless drivers can glance down at a phone or be focused on anything but the road and place anyone on foot, just wanting to cross the road, suddenly at risk of severe injury.

Pedestrian Hit and Badly Injured in Kensington

A pedestrian was struck in central Philadelphia in the Kensington section of the city Monday night. CBS3-TV reported the accident happened on the 1900 block of East Allegheny Avenue around 8 p.m. on December 14, 2020.

Philadelphia police say a man was hit by a vehicle while crossing the avenue. He was transported to Temple University in critical condition. Officials didn’t release the identity of the victim but say he is 35-40 years old.

The motorist who hit the man stayed on the scene to cooperate with investigators.

Help for Philadelphia Accident Victims And Families

Frightening pedestrian accidents can leave victims with a difficult recovery ahead and leave families wondering how justice can be served for a loved one who was struck.

A victim can file a claim for damages against an at-fault driver’s insurance coverage to get help with paying doctor bills and get reimbursement for lost time at work during recovery. A family member can also help bring this claim against the driver’s insurance company if the victim is unable to do so.

Victims can expect compensation for their hardships even if they weren’t in a crosswalk when they were hit. Drivers still owe a “duty of care” to all pedestrians no matter where they are because of the lack of protection a human body has when up against a much larger and heavier vehicle. Compensation can still be won on behalf of the defenseless victim to provide for their needs as they heal. Drivers must always be on the lookout for anyone who may be on the street and show proper caution as they approach.
