Interstate travel can combine increased speeds and careless drivers to put safe motorists at risk for devastating collisions. One small fender-bender can create a chain reaction as more and more drivers come upon the scene and may not have time or space to avoid the crashed cars in front of them.
The Pennsylvania DOT’s annual accident statistics illustrate just how hazardous interstate travel can be for drivers. Their numbers for 2019 show that interstates were the scene for 11,098 collisions across the state. The year saw a tragic 83 deaths on interstates and those accidents left just over 6-thousand people injured.
One Person Killed in Tragic Schuylkill Expressway Accident
An accident along I-76 early Tuesday morning in Montgomery County tragically killed one person. WPVI-TV reported the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on the Schuylkill Expressway near the Gladwyne exit on November 24, 2020.
Investigators say the accident in the eastbound lanes claimed one life. They confirm at least two people were also injured in the crash, with one victim taken to the hospital.
The interstate was closed to traffic for over four hours as officials tried to figure out what led to the accident. The number of vehicles involved and the cause of the crash has not been released.
Support for Montgomery County Accident Victims
A severe crash on an Interstate can leave so many victims behind including the families who have lost a loved one. A family that’s gotten word of a tragedy should be allowed time to grieve and lend support to each other during such a difficult time.
Unfortunately, the family may not have long before expensive medical bills and funeral costs come due. All of these costs should be the responsibility of the drivers who cause these crashes, but sometimes it’s their insurance company that holds up the process.
While families are waiting in extreme need of financial assistance, an insurance company can stall on payment and even offer less than fair compensation for their loss. This hardship can come at a time when the deceased is no longer able to provide the family financial support through his or her job.
In these cases, filing a wrongful death lawsuit can be the most effective way to secure fair compensation to protect the family now and in the future. A spouse or child of the victim can file this lawsuit on behalf of the entire family. An attorney can also file the claim for the family and collect evidence and documents needed to build a strong case against the opposing insurance company.
If surviving victims of an accident want to make sure they don’t end up paying for a long, expensive recovery alone, they may need to file a claim for damages against the at-fault driver. With this claim, an attorney can demand compensation for every cost of rehabilitation from the driver’s insurance company.
