The potential for car crashes and accidents is present on every roadway in New Jersey, making it important for residents to stay vigilant behind the wheel. However, while we do our best to avoid them, car crashes still happen every day across the state. When car accidents in New Jersey do occur, understanding the proper channels for reporting them and knowing how to file a police report is essential.

In cases where accidents occur on state highways, the New Jersey State Police must be notified of the accident, and it’s important to do it promptly after the accident, no matter how minor it seems to be. As the primary law enforcement agency overseeing interstate and highway safety, the NJSP is tasked with responding to interstate and highway car accidents, as well as handling all fatal accidents statewide. Their swift response and meticulous documentation of every accident ensure that proper measures are taken to address the accident, provide life-saving measures if needed, and file complete documentation of the accident.
